Following the welcome recent rain the course presented as a total contrast to the dry conditions experienced in our last competition. We were all happy to see that the fairways displayed a darker shade of green, however, the ball didn’t want to run very far particularly in the fluffy, wet rough and the pace of the greens had slowed somewhat and were difficult to judge. It seems we are never completely happy – but the rain stayed away for us.
With many of our fellow golfers away playing in exotic locations like the Murray River courses, there were only 24 players participating today with a shotgun start. The format of the event proved challenging particularly if you were scheduled to start from between holes one to six where the pair’s stableford points had to be multiplied. Anything multiplied by zero results in a zero score on a hole so if either partner couldn’t score, it was “curtains for that hole. There was some respite to be had on the first six holes where the scores were added and on the final six when the best score was recorded.
Angela Boadle paired up with a very steady partner in Di Pritchard who has starred in her division over the last few weeks. They both produced solid performances today with Angela coming in with 37 points to her credit and Di showing her capabilities again to finish with 35 points. Their efforts gave them the top spot in the field with a result of 58. Our sponsor, Trish Austin and partner Val Wilson were second with a creditable 54 points and Cathy Ison and Linda Weatherill teamed up to bring in 48 points.
Thank you to Trish Austin for her sponsorship today.
Four players participated in the Nine Hole Competition starting on the first hole. Jeanette James managed a win this week, with Jennifer Manning taking out the Encouragement Award.
