The kookaburras were having a great chuckle, the ducks were swimming around in the wet bunkers while the other birds on the course today found it tough playing for the June Golf NSW and Club Monthly Medals. No-one can explain it, perhaps it’s a type of phobia but when the words “medal” or “stroke” are mentioned we golfers seem to “crash and burn” and produce all our bad shots in one game. It was also tough backing up with another stroke game after the 36 Holes Foursomes last week.

There were no complaints regarding the conditions as the day was beautifully clear and sunny, although a little chilly and the course had recovered well after the welcome drenching it received on Tuesday.

However, whilst the scores generally reflected the average performance of the players, there is always someone who shines. Lyn Hatton from Division 2, continued to feature in the winners’ circle. On this occasion she notched up her second consecutive medal win and returned the best overall score of the day with a neat 72 nett. For her efforts she was also awarded the June Monthly Wine Goblet. Runner-up to Lyn in Division 2 was a steady Val Wilson who came in with 77 nett.

There was a tight contest in Division 1 when Sandra England and Linda Weatherill both came in with 77 nett. However, Sandra was able to claim the prize on a count back.

Margaret Ford prevailed in Division 3 to win with a nett 78 and Sandra Rigney was the runner-up with a nett 81.

Special Prizes

It was Sandra England’s day in Division 1 today as she won nearest to the pin on both the 8th and the 12th and also claimed the Jackpot prize on the 16th. But wait, there’s more! Sandra also won the best Scratch Score for Division 1 with 92 and the overall Putting competition with 26 putts! Well done Sandra.

Val Wilson also had a good day by winning the Division 2 nearest to the pin on both the 8th and the 12th. Shirley Moore took out the Jackpot prize for Division 2 on the 16th.

The Scratch score winners in Divisions 2 and 3 were won by Lyn Hatton (103) and Sandra Rigney (114) respectively.

The nearest to the pins and the Jackpot for Division 3 were not awarded. The Ball Competition went down to 83.

Next week is an 18 Holes Stableford.
