A stunning autumnal morning held promise for some good rounds in the Women’s Golf Nowra inaugural Monthly Medal for 2021. It wasn’t long before reality hit and it became evident that the competition was not going to be as easy as hoped. The very heavy conditions on the course continue to prevail providing absolutely no extra distance due to lack of run and the greens proved to be fast and challenging.

However, as the saying goes, “when the the going gets tough, the tough get going” and the field pushed on with the attitude that at least the walk in the park was to be enjoyed on such a glorious morning.

It was like a Captain versus President competition in Division 1 with a deja vu result from last year’s competition when the President prevailed. Angela Boadle very adroitly pinged Captain Sue Hunter for the Division 1 medal honours on a count back. With 96 each off the stick and a 74 nett in each case, it was a line ball decider.

Similarly in Division 2, another very close result ensued. Colleen Lymbery has made a very successful comeback to Thursday competition this year and she claimed the top spot with 108/77. Colleen commented that it is a long time since she has had the honour of achieving a Monthly Medal. Seasoned campaigner, Joyce Wallace was in fine form again today to claim the runner’s up position with 110/78.

The best nett scores were to be had in Division 3 where yet another close tussle in the medal stakes prevailed. Betty Tucker kept her concentration on track for the duration to clinch the winning score on a count back with a 71 nett. Donna Hewat also put in a strong and steady effort but was unlucky in the closing holes and had to be satisfied with the runner’s up spot.
