Teams from clubs in the north, south, east and west gathered at the Nowra Golf Club to compete in the annual United Hospital Charity Day event. The enthusiasm was electric as the teams prepared for a shot gun start at 8.30 on a glorious Autumn morning. The course was looking stunning as always with all the contrasting colours of the green of the manicured fairways and the Autumn hues in the deciduous trees.

There were 64 ladies participating and the visiting teams came from Mollymook and Sussex Inlet in the south, Callala Bay, Vincentia and St Georges Basin in the east, Port Kembla, the Grange and Jamberoo in the north and Goulburn made the trek from the west.

The purpose of the day was to raise funds to enable the Hospital Auxiliary to provide much needed equipment for the benefit of people in the Shoalhaven area. Everyone was  extremely generous in purchasing “Mulligan Packs” that would take the stress out of the game. The packs consisted of cards which could be used to get out of the bunker without penalty or for second chance putts and a one metre piece of string would give relief from impossible situations anywhere on the course.

The format of the game was an individual stableford but after the four tee shots, the best drive was chosen and each team member played their own stableford game from that point to the hole. The two best scores counted on each hole and were added up to give the team’s final score. There was much fun and laughter and sometimes confusion over when to take second chance putts to best advantage.
