It was a tough day at the office when sixteen brave souls ventured out into the gusty conditions for the first competition game back after the inundation that besieged our golf course. It is quite amazing how everything bounces back so well after such an event and we have our hard working greens staff and volunteers for the concerted effort they put in to the clean up.

Some parts of the course however are  still too wet to handle traffic so our game today was played on the composite course which has fewer low lying areas. The nine holes on this course are hard enough to play twice over, without having to negotiate all the trenches surrounding most of the greens – a result of necessary irrigation works being done. It was all bit of fun and entertainment trying to play a shot over or through the mounds of soil and turf cuttings and it more was good fortune than good management that the approach shot landed the ball on the green.

Due to the conditions it isn’t surprising that the scores were not at all outstanding and no one was able to achieve 30 points. Indeed the best card in was 29 points and credit goes to Anne Newton for the best score of the field. Coming in close behind was Shirley Moore who claimed the second spot with 27 points.

With such a small field today it was decided by the Match Committee to award an overall First and Second place and all other players will receive a ball each.

Congratulations to our winner Anne Newton and runner up Shirley Moore. Well done to everyone who played today.

Let’s hope the conditions will be better next week. We are playing a 4BBB and it is sponsored by Ellen Ryan so please come along and give your support. It is a shotgun start at 8.30am and following the game is the AGM – your attendance is important.
