It was a treat to get back on the full course for the women’s competition today after having to play on the wet weather composite course last time around. There was a touch of cool autumn air for the early starters but it wasn’t long before the clouds cleared away to reveal a glorious sunny day with an extremely comfortable temperature in the mid twenties.

The greens staff have been working very hard lately just to keep the vigorous growth on the fairways and rough to an acceptable level not to mention the cleaning up of debris on the course from the recent heavy rain. However, the rough was again very unkind to those who ventured in because the ball was often buried below the top of the turf making it hard to find and then to dig out. The bunkers being out of play made the going a little easier but it looks like they will be back in action soon as the boys have been working on getting them into ship shape condition again.

The resulting scores were commensurate with the level of difficulty on the course and any player who managed to come in with 30 points or more were the stars today. The successful division 2 players shone the brightest with Margaret Jennings producing the most impressive score of the day of 33 points. Lyn Hatton was hot on Margaret’s heals to claim the second spot with a very respectable 32 points.

Jill Levi played steadily to come in on the top of the Division 1 competition with 32 points to her credit while Angela Boadle may have been in holiday mode but managed to take out the second place with 28 points. In Division 3 Sandra Rigney put in a solid round to win the top honours with 31 points while Donna Hewat was successful as the runner up with 25 points.

It was great to see both Nancye Massingham and Jenny Parnell back on deck playing 18 holes and we also welcomed Lyn Ashton back after a break due to injury.
