Another mild, sunny day prevailed for our annual Jean Auld Memorial Day. The Par event was Jean’s favourite game and we all thought fondly of our past popular and down to earth member today. Her “matter of fact” attitude and stoic approach to the sport she loved was remembered when President Sue Stephens read a delightfully expressed composition written by Michele Carey about Jean’s life and golfing career. Besides being a well known identity in Nowra, Jean, alongside her husband George, was a valued member of the Golf Club for many years, providing good advice to others on how to effectively manage the game both physically and psychologically.
There was plenty of run on the fairways today due to the continuing dry conditions and this was reflected favourably in the very reasonable scores returned overall. Jean would have been very proud of the winners’ efforts.
Robyn Moore starred in Division 1 taking out the number one position with a square while Gloria Davis claimed the runner’s up spot with -2.
It seems that Val Wilson played a very different course today when she put in a top performance in Division 2 to produce the best score of the day with +5. Linda Trusler played well to come in with a square score in her round to clinch second spot, but was no match for the winner in the end.
Barbara Howsan’s +2 result in Division 3 was a great score and enough to take the winner’s place ahead of Sue Davies with -1.
