With the extremely hot conditions forecast for today’s event, most players opted to play from carts to make the game a little easier. The poor course is suffering from heat stress with extreme temperatures, drying winds and most of all from the lack of rain. However, the greens are holding up well due to the consistent care of our course superintendent, Louis and his merry band who are madly ensuring that they have adequate water. Thank you boys for your hard work under such stressful conditions.

Thank you to Ellen Ryan who generously sponsored the event today. It was unfortunate that it coincided with the fact that there are many members away at the Veterans’ tournament in Young and so we had only 21 players today. However we all enthusiastically rallied on in good spirits to support the competition.

The run on the fairways was phenomenal, but the greens proved to be a little tricky at times and it was difficult to gauge the speed in some cases while in others, the ball just didn’t want to go into the hole. Being a “better ball” can take the pressure off if you are having a tough time on a hole and as always, there are always a few who can consistently “get it all together” to produce some good scores.

It was a close tussle at the top with the winners taking out the honours with only two points between the first three positions. Jeanette Bright and “in form” partner Barbara Howsan claimed the top spot with a clean and tidy 43 points, while Sandra Rigney and Sue Stephens had to settle for the runners up prize with a respectable 42 points. Margaret Ford and Margaret Jennings were certainly no slouches in the score department to claim the third place with 41 points on a count back.

The ball competition went to 38 points
