Everyone entered into the spirit of the season for the final women’s competition event for 2020. There was a plethora of Christmas themed shirts, Santa hats, reindeer ears and tinsel decorated buggies to behold as the ladies excitedly gathered in preparation for the start of the competition of the day.

While the event was an 18 Hole Par 3 team game it was made even more challenging with the added restriction of only three clubs (a putter included) in total to be used by each player. There was a buzz of discussion regarding which two clubs would be best to take onto the course and the teams headed off to their assigned tees for the shot gun start with trepidation regarding their choices. To add insult to injury, a look at the competition card revealed a dramatic drop in handicaps and the added rule that two scores per hole were required! However, at this stage there was no turning back and the teams rallied enthusiastically to try to contest the difficult task at hand.

It was a delightful sunny morning for a walk in the park and lots of walking was done between the tees, the positions of which are drastically altered to accommodate a Par 3 course. Despite all the previous concern regarding which clubs should be taken, the players in general were surprised at how well they performed and in the end wondered why they really needed 14 clubs at all!

The scores that resulted were impressive considering the challenges the team had faced. Kirsten Themsen teamed up with Maree McLean and Lyn Hatchman to prove a formidable trio and came in with the top score of the day of 83 points. Hot on their heels were Michele Carey, Margaret Ford and Cathy Ricetti who tidied up for the runners up spot with 82 points. Cathy is a new comer to competition and she was a very capable support to the team.

Jill Levi, Jean Mitzimberg and Robyn Lenehan combined exceptionally well to take out third place with 79 points and bringing up the rear were old hands Gloria Davis, Linda Trusler and Di Pritchard with 78 points.

Thank you to the Nowra Veterans Committee for their generous sponsorship for the day.
