The long awaited Women’s Foursomes Championships went ahead without a hitch and plenty of new pairings this year made for very interesting competition and results. Initially scheduled for May this year, the event had to be postponed due to the course having been closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. To accommodate the rescheduling, the Women’s Club Championships have been reduced to 54 holes from 72 holes and will be played on 8th, 15th and 22nd October. Presentation for both Championship events will be held on 29th October.
The Foursomes event is undoubtedly one of the hardest to play as it requires intense concentration to produce one’s best possible game in the hope of not letting your partner down. Fortitude, a sense of adventure, a positive attitude and most of all a sense of humour all play a part in negotiating the long hard haul over 36 holes playing alternate shots with a partner.
The strong partnership of Angela Boadle and Sandra England was just the recipe for success this year. Sandra’s broad golfing experience, consistency and skill complemented by Angela’s steady and intrepid approach to the game won them the 2020 Championship honours. Playing off a combined handicap of 23, they scored 96/73 and 93/70 to take out the scratch score.
Sue Hunter and Linda Trusler teamed up for the challenge and set off to a good start with a birdie on the first hole when Sue holed out on the third shot from 75 metres out. They combined well, with Linda sinking some unbelievable putts which helped the score. They claimed the runners up position with 97/68.5 and 103/74.5.
