The Super 6 Knockout is an exciting annual event and 23 players turned out to qualify for the Knockout Match Play round scheduled for next week. Historically, the Maureen Knaggs Knockout competition used to be held over the Christmas break in January/ February. However, the summer heat and family holidays limited the participation and it was decided to schedule this fun event on the golfing calendar within the competition year.

Maureen Knaggs has been a long time member of Women’s Golf Nowra, a past committee member and President. Although she has not played golf over recent years Maureen has remained a staunch supporter and friend of the golf club in general and in particular women’s golf. We thank her for her generous sponsorship again this year.

The qualifying round is played to establish the 16 players who will contest the Stableford Knockout Match play with the unsuccessful players being eligible to contest the Single Stableford Plate event. By keeping their stableford scores throughout the game, those who are knocked out during the round then also become part of the plate event. The format is over three lots of six holes by the end of which there will be two players remaining. These two contestants play the final in a “head to head” knockout over holes 1 to 3 to determine the winner. Good Luck everyone.

It was a beautiful day for golf even though the weather alternated between warm and cool. At least the rain stayed away and with the irrigation works coming to finality, it seemed that the course is getting back to almost back to normal.

The competition was  fairly hot across the divisions but the course must have been playing tough as the scores barely reached the mid thirties. Sue Beazley would be pleased to have found her form at last and managed to claim the top spot honours in Division 1 with 34 points, thwarting Angela Boadle’s valiant efforts today in clocking up 33 points.

Lyn Hatchman starred again this week puting in a steady performance to take out the Division 2 winning position with 34 points. It was a back to back victory after a magic round last week to claim the Monthly Medal and the wine glass to boot. Hot on her heels with a concentrated effort was Trish Austin who couldn’t quite catch her canny opponent but managed to claim the runner up trophy with 33 points.

Division 3 was dominated by Linda Trusler’s steady round which scored her 33 points, with Dot McManus having settle for the second spot with 31 points nudging out Lyn Hatton on a count back.
