It was good to see the sun back again for the first WGN and Golf NSW Monthly Medal which had to be postponed last week because of inclement weather. The early morning showers didn’t prove to be too threatening and all the keen golfers were champing at the bit to get their game in. Storm clouds gathered but were no deterrent and everyone came through at the other end unscathed by the weather.
However, the golf was a real test of a player’s mettle and a score under 80 nett was a reality for only a few and a dream for the majority of the field. The heavy dew combined with the early rain made it tough going. The very lush rough “ate” the ball if you were off course and with the bunkers back in play accuracy and consistency were the keys to success.
Jill Levi was the star of the day coming in with a very tidy scratch score of 92 and a nett 73 to claim the top position in Division 1. This result was the best in the field. Linda Weatherill made a comeback to the game today after a long break. This morning she discovered that her shoes were full of cobwebs and her clubs were covered in mould but managed to dust all that off and put in a top effort to claim the runner up honours with a 77 nett.
Val Wilson was rather stunned to get the win in Division 2 with 86 nett and Lyn Hatton was hot on her heals to take out second place with 87 nett.
In Division 3 Sandra Rigney showed good form and came in with a neat 75 nett and Kirsten Themsen was thrilled to be the runner up with 81 nett.
