The stage was set for a perfect round at Nowra golf course today – a stunning Spring morning with plenty of sunshine, soft zephyr breezes, twittering birds and a beautifully manicured course greeted 28 players in a single stableford round. It was a welcome break from the very busy golfing calendar that has been October and early November which were dominated by the severity of the challenge of championships and the madness and frivolity that goes hand in hand with Pink Day. The conditions certainly favoured the earlier players as the temperature started to climb towards midday and the later groups found the going tough in the heat.

However, one could “relax” in the knowledge that if things go pear shaped on a hole, the ball can be picked up and given a rest until the next hole. There was definitely some serious golf out there as the scores that came in were generally concentrated within the thirties.

Top scorer for the day was a newcomer to Thursday competition. Jean Mitzemberg, a graduate from the “Friday Girls” group who have been very well coached by Jill Levi, nailed it today with a fabulous 41 points and in so doing claimed the trophy in Division 3. This was only Jean’s second game in competition and it is obvious she will be a force to contend with in the future and at this rate she can expect a steady drop in handicap. Well done Jean.

Jill Levi found form today in preparation for the Captain versus President match next week. Her 36 points was well deserved and earned her top honours in Division 1. Angela Boadle put in a steady performance to score 34 points and was runner up in Division 1.

Wendy Phillips continued on her form that she found on Tuesday in the Veterans’ competition, to clinch the top spot in Division 2 with 35 points. Trish Austin has been playing steady golf lately and she managed to take out second place in Division 2 with 31 points.

In Division 3, Di Pritchard engineered another solid performance to come in as runner up with 36 points behind the club house leader, Jean Mitzimberg.
