A punishing par event was made even more unpleasant today by near gale force wind and very cold temperatures. There were hats and other possessions being dislodged from their owners as the uncompromising strong gusts ripped around the fairways in all directions with many a ball being blown well off its intended course much to the frustration of the striker.
However, golf is a game of courage and determination meant to test one’s strength of character, resilience and tenacity in the face of all adversity. There was plenty of adversity today but not enough to deter these brave women of substance and everyone pushed on right to the end. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to retreat to the warm and calm of the clubhouse.
Generally the overall scores were fairly reasonable considering the tough conditions no player was able to score on the plus side of the ledger.
Division 1 was very closely contested between Cathy Ison and Sandra England. Both players were a bit slow out of the box but were able, like the wind, to gain momentum as the morning progressed. The final decision was made on a countback when both came in with a minus two on the card. Cathy prevailed to claim line honours and Sandra had to settle for the runner’s up spot.
In Division 2, Lyn Hatton put in a consistent effort and was able to hold her concentration to finish with minus five and hang on to the top position ahead of Marj Burns who took out the second place honours with a minus seven.
Leanne Robson acquitted herself particularly well today especially since it was her first game for a while. The par is a very difficult game unless you can be consistent over the full round and except for a few wayward shots Leanne kept her head down to clinch the win with minus four. Sandra Rigney continued on her steady path and she claimed the runner’s up spot with minus six.
