Despite the menacing black clouds, the weather was very kind to the 33 ladies who ventured out onto the course for the Annual Pink Day for Breast Cancer event. Everyone entered into the spirit of the day wearing a variety of shades of pink outfits to create a resplendent scene across the course. The aim of the Day was to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research and it was a fantastic effort by everyone to raise a total of $800 by the end of the day.

We were happy to have Danny Taylor join us again  and he was a welcome sight to all the players at the 18th tee, offering to hit their tee shots (and hopefully miss the dam) for a gold coin donation. Danny was up to the task, launching many a fine shot and raising $64 for his efforts.

Golf buggies were festooned with balloons, streamers, flags and all manner of pink decoration in the hope of winning the “Best Decorated Buggy” award. As it was a team competition, others chose to dress in matching outfits to enter into the Best Team ” category.

Our Judges and special guests Maureen Knaggs and Adeney Ball, took to the course during the morning to inspect the entrants in the Fancy Dress categories. The Best Team was won by Marj Burns, Margaret Ford and Viv Mitchell with Nancye Massingham being the successful entrant in the Best Decorated Buggy.

Two separate competitions were scheduled for the day with the main event being a 3 Ball Best Ball. In addition to this, each team was issued with a pink ball which was to be hit on alternating holes by each of the three team members. The aim of course was not to lose that coveted pink ball so that a decent point score could be accumulated over the 18 holes.

Presentation was conducted at the conclusion of the competition and it was wonderful to have some of our past members join us. We thank Joan Watts, Wendy Legge, Clare Mackay, Maureen Knaggs and Adeney Ball their attendance.

The recent rain, which has been wonderful for the condition of the course, didn’t affect the quality of the scores that were recorded in both events. Winners of the 3BBB were Betty Tucker, Ellen Ryan and Sandra Goddard who came in with 47 points. Sue Davies, Mary Stewart and Gloria Davis were close on their heels to take the second spot with 46 points on a count back from Peta Merchant, Linda Trusler and Jill Levi in third position.

The Pink Ball Competition was generously sponsored by Clare Mackay and won by Sue Davies, Mary Stewart and Gloria Davis with 40 points.
