Blustery conditions were the order of the day for the annual Patron’s Day event sponsored by Patrons Mary Stewart and Jill Levi. Unfortunately it was too windy for some entrants who pulled out of the competition prior to the shotgun start at 8.30am. However, 11 teams braved the July wind to participate. In fact, the morning turned out to be more pleasant than expected with only the occasional strong gust sending hats flying and buggies being propelled against their will. Cathy Ison was seen crawling under the fence at the 12th tee in a very kind gesture to retrieve an errant visor. Thank you Cathy – nice to be so trim and to be able to squeeze under the small gap.
Despite the wind, the scores were very tidy with only three points being the difference between the first and third places. Jeanette Bright teamed up with a steady Val Wilson to claim the first position with 43 points and hot on their heels were Linda Trusler and Gloria Davis in second spot with 42points. Taking out third place were Lyn Hatchman and Maree McLean with 40 points to their credit.
Three pairs scored 39 points each to claim a prize in the ball competition with one other pair on 38 points taking the final credit.
It was great to see Mary Stewart back with us again today following her recent surgery and although she wasn’t playing it was good to see her hale and hearty. Many thanks to Mary and Jill for their generous sponsorship of the day.
