The Women’s Golf Nowra Inaugural Friendship Day, sponsored by Betty Tucker and Sandra Marshall, saw 48 players from clubs around the area as well as Nowra Golf Club members, enjoy the sparkling springtime weather and the picturesque course to play a Two Person Ambrose. Visitors from Callala, Kiama, Port Kembla, St Georges Basin, Shoalhaven Heads, Vincentia and Worrigee Clubs were invited for a day of fun and friendship. A group of players from the Friday golf clinic also joined in to get a taste of the game in a relaxed and non threatening competition atmosphere.

The course was abuzz with the excitement of catching up with past friends and members and meeting new faces. As the ladies settled in to the task at hand, the enthusiasm was very evident as many shouts of joy echoed from the escarpment to the river bank as great shots were executed and successes achieved. The day culminated with more friendship and laughter over lunch and presentation.

Jill Levi teamed teamed up with old golfing buddy, Jill Lutton from Shoalhaven Heads, to take out top honours with a wonderful nett score of 66.5 having had 76 off the stick. Close on their heels were Lorna Knott and Des Thornett from Nowra with 68.25 and Angela Boadle from Nowra paired up with Patricia Laird from Kiama in third position with a score of 69.5. The ball rundown went to 72.75.

The Longest Drive on the 5th hole was won with a blinder by Lorna Knot in Division 1, Val Wilson in Division 2 and Donna Hewat took out the Division 3 honours. The Drive and Pitch prize on the 12th was a combined team prize and won by Jill Levi and Jill Lutton.

The Longest Walk was awarded to the teams of Di Pritchard (Nowra) and Kerry Barker (Friday Clinic) and a second prize went to Mary Stewart (Nowra) and Lorraine Rowe (Shoalhaven Heads).

It was a fantastic and enjoyable event and we all look forward to having an Annual Friendship Day.

Next Thursday is the October Monthly Medal and the final opportunity of the year to qualify for the Medal of Medals in November. Good luck all.
