The weather looked doubtful with showers threatening and very cool temperatures prevailing when the early starters for the first team event of the year arrived at the course. The less brave players who pulled out of the competition would have been disappointed as the morning progressed, as the weather developed into perfect conditions for 18 holes.
Thank you to Sandra England for her generous support of Women’s Golf by providing sponsorship for the day’s event.
The 3BBB is always popular and was well patronised on this occasion with 33 ladies in the field. Also incorporated into the day was the inaugural 9 Hole event for the year. Six newcomers to the club and competition courageously tried out the skills they have learnt from the introductory courses being conducted at Nowra Golf Club by Professional, Luke Grinham. With past Captain, Marilyn Burney assisting, the girls managed to complete the 9 hole course while getting a taste for how it all happens on competition days. While they found it quite a challenge, the morning was enjoyed by all, with most signing up again for a repeat performance next week.
In the 3BBB field, the team of Jill Levi, Sue Davies and Di Pritchard proved a formidable combination. Undaunted by the wet and difficult rough, they recorded the best score of the day with 47 points. Next in the winners’ circle were Lorna Knott, Des Thornett and Joyce Wallace taking out the spot with 43 points. Sponsor, Sandra, teamed up with Jan Buttle and Sue Hunter to score 42 points and claim third place on a count back.
Winner of the 9 hole competition was Kirsten Themsen, who won 2 balls to her credit.
